Coral Coral is a limestone substance produced by marine animals' colony which lives along the coasts of mild seas. Since the past the coral has always fascioned men that gives to it a supernatural powers. The segret of the coral, maybe, is in its red colour, so similar to the human blood to be considered as source of life. Without blood there is no life and so the coral, hard and with a warm colour, became the symbol of life, talisman against illness and death. The production of amulets in coral, started in the classic era, continued during the middle-age and we have to wait for the Reinassanceto receive the first testimony of some artistic products in coral. Since the seventeeth century the coral's history mixed to those of Torre del Greco and in few years the little village of Torre assume an important role in this sector; nowadays Torre is considered without doubts "the mondial capital of Coral". At the moment, to create some hand-made article in coral, the torres' artisans work on "the Mediterranean coral" featured by red colour and thin branches, and with the "Pacific coral" featured by various colours and greater branches. The manufacturing corals technicals have been always the same during these centuries: the choice and the cutting of the coral's branches, the carving and the finishing are those of the past and still now are used by the corals' artisans of Torre. Heirs of an ancient tradition, the masters of the "Di Luca Brothers" create splendid hand-made works in coral trying to unit technical skills, fantasy and inspirations.
